OSET RIDERS COME TO BEAZLEY END

ESSEX OSET CUP ROUND 2

Braintree and District Motorcycle Club run the second round of the 2022 Essex Oset Cup on Saturday 26th March. Beazley End with its mixed terrain of wooded undulated hills, logs and pipes was again the venue. 8 sections to be covered over 4 laps was the challenge for the young riders on ready to take on the challenge.

The overall win was again taken by Braintree Academy supported rider Fin Penny who rode a superb trial on a borrowed Oset 24 (his own one getting a birthday make over!) to drop just 38 marks on the hard route. The only other rider to take on the hard route was young Jack Holmes who was struggling a little to start with the bigger Oset he has only just got his hands on. Only section 4 with its mega sharp twists and near vertical slopes stopped both riders on all laps. Jack eventually finishing on 72 marks lost.

Meanwhile Jacks younger brother Alfie was busy tearing the easy route to pieces taking a fabulous overall and Youth E win on 40 marks lost. Alfie was just a baby when Jack started riding the Braintree Academy events so it was fantastic to see the little man riding so well.

With the majority of the entry taking on the “middle route” it was won (just like the first round last month!) overall and in his own Youth D class by the mighty atom Reuben Keet from the Surrey Schoolboys club who had a quite brilliant ride on just 19 marks lost. Only a couple of errors on sections 2 and 3 causing him any real problems. This put him some 18 marks clear of Jasper Johnson in 2nd with the Ipswich rider getting to grips with his newly acquired bigger Oset. Jasper riding at a much higher standard than round one showing the practice paying off! Little Thomas Tidd of the Hillingdon & Uxbridge club moved up from riding the easy route in round one to tackle the middle route and came home in a very impressive 3rd position on just 46 marks lost.

The remaining Youth C also took on the middle route and like round one it was Academy regular Reuben Green who took a nice win on 19 marks. This Youth C is incredibly competitive and just 10 marks behind was local lad Harry Wicks who in turn was just one mark less than Archie Woolgar.

With Thomas Tidd moving up to the middle route it was left to Academy regulars Stanley Butcher and Barnaby Green to fight it out for the win Youth D. Stanley winning this regular battle on this occasion 45 marks lost to Barnaby’s 74.

In the older categories girl power was again on display as local girls Clara Wicks and Jorgana Fletcher took on the middle route and battled round on 70 and 73 marks respectively to take the wins in the Youth A and B category.

Final shout out to debutant Lily Barrett who was one of 4 girls in the entry. Lily lost control on a downhill part of the very first section of the day resulting in the award for “crash of the day”. Lily dusted herself down and continued to ride her first ever trial.

Round 3 of the 8 event series is on 30th April – please get your entries in on the ACU website. It will be great to welcome you all!
